Excellent tutorial! After downloading the drivers and following the step by step process of how to use nLite I installed this onto Virtual Box just to see if this really could be done, and the answer is YES!! After everything had installed the system ran quite stable though VB so I decided to overwrite Vista once and for all. After a very long format of my C drive (arse twitching all the way) I had my fingers crossed that this was going to install without a problem and it did!!
I'm no way a tech geek but I have enough knowledge to get me through :)

My system is and Acer Aspire M3641, NVIDIA Geforce 7100/nforce 630i, ntel Core 2 Quad Q6600

Right what I did:

Downloaded the above drivers:

Chipset
Aspire M1641 M3641 M5641

LAN
Aspire M1641 M3641 M5641

SATA RAID
Aspire M1641 M3641 M5641

Notice I haven't downloaded any other drivers? This is because for the graphics card I have the driver is in the Chipset folder, the Audio driver wasnt needed as I have an M-Audio Delta AP192 soundcard, and lastly the the 2 Modem drivers listed I didnt think I would need as I use a Belkin USB wireless dongle (turns out I was right on that too because I'm sitting here typing this on my fresh XP machine wirlessly!!) the only reason I have downloaded the LAN driver and installed it is because I may want to use an Ethernet cable in the future instead of wireless....

O.K next step:

Download nLite and follow the step by step process above, link in Cayha's post from January 16.

This confused me a little as I didnt have the same driver as was pictured in the tutorial so what i did was follow the process until the point of adding the driver then browsed for my SATA/RAID driver I had downloaded above and added the inf file, it should only let you add that type of file and there should only be one (in my case anyway) continue the process, burn the bootable ISO file.

I then installed this into Virtual Box to see if everthing was OK with the install disk and also knowing doing it this way I always had a back out plan.

I would advise anybody to download Virtual Box first and test that you have correctly made your boot disk, all Virtual Box does is partition part of your hard drive off, say 10 gigs, then you can load up a fresh OS onto it, giving you the option to run both systems, your Host in my case vista and a slave, in my case XP.

Anyway, less talking about Virtual box.

Now I added the drivers that I downloaded from above. Go to Control Panel-System-Hardware-Device Manager and add relevent Drivers, also I saved my Drivers onto a pendrive/usb stick and windows automatically detected the pendrive which was cool.

When you get into the Device manager you will see a lot of yellow and black question marks, these are the drivers that you are missing, some may be obvious and others may not be, for the ones i wasn't familiar with i just went through the add driver wizard and when it asked me to browse for a driver i chose each one and clicked next consecutively until I got the right driver for that device (I am mainly talking about the chipset drivers here as there are quite a few in that folder, the other drivers were self explanitary)

Once all your drivers are added your ready to go!! I still have one driver I need which is the PCI driver, I'll find that though no doubt.

Well I hope this talk through of my installation is of some help to a few of you, by no means is it a tutorial but I'm that pleased I now have XP on my machine I thought I would share my installation process with you all.

You really wont believe how much more performance you can get out of your quad core with XP.

Regards,

Chris
